About us

The Scottish Funding Council is Scotland’s tertiary education and research authority. We are a non-departmental public body and are accountable to Scottish Government Ministers and to the Scottish Parliament.  

We employ around 130 full-time equivalent staff, and fund 26 colleges and 19 universities. Our annual investment is currently £2 billion which supports:

  • Tertiary learning and teaching.
  • Skills and apprenticeships.
  • Student support and participation.
  • Research, innovation and knowledge exchange.
  • Data collection and dissemination.
  • National quality assurance and enhancement processes.
  • Capital and digital infrastructure for the sector.
  • Strategic change, responsive provision and research priorities.
